Extra Blog Post: February

Since the end of last month I've been working with my new mentor. I've visited her more often than my last mentor because she is a family friend. The down side about mentoring there is she doesn't allow me to take pictures of her clients or herself because she does work from out of her house. I feel like I am going to need to continue to visit my other mentor and my new one. My new one provides more information than my last one, but my last mentor allowed me to take pictures which would allow me to provide more evidence. I feel that Cathy Martinez will be able to provide me with the information towards my senior project. I feel more comfortable with my new mentor because the environment that I am in which is a big plus for me. The more people I have to mentor me or even just interview will just help me in the long run answer my questions and provide good reliable information for my senior project.

Blog 16: Answer 2

1. What is your EQ?
How can a make-up artist best maximize customer satisfaction?

2. What is your first answer?
A make-up artist can best maximize customer satisfaction by communicating with the customer.

 3. What is your second answer?
A make-up artist can best maximize customer satisfaction by using the proper techniques during application.

4. List three reasons your answer is true with a real-world application for each.
Answer one:
If the makeup artist does not communicate with the client she/he will not know the clients skin type and the makeup will either be drying to the skin or will come right off.

If the makeup artist does not communicate with the client she/he will not know the undertone of the client and once applying the makeup it will be a different undertone than the clients undertone.

If the makeup artist does not communicate with the client she/he will not know what the client wants as the final outcome or the look that the client is looking for such as a smokey eye, natural look or others.

Answer two:
If the makeup artist does not use the proper techniques she/he will possiably leave streeks, brush marks or other marks on the face.

If the makeup artist does not use the proper techniques then she/he can leave the client with a cakey/ heavy look or even not apply enough makeup on the skin to cover the clients imperfections.

If the makeup artist does not use the propper techniques then she/he may not blend the makeup completely and may leave blotchy spots and other imperfections.

5. What printed source best supports your answer?
  • Jones, Robert. Makeup Makeovers: Expert Secrets for Stunning Transformations. Gloucester, MA: Fair Winds Pr., 2005. Print.
6. What other source supports your answer?
  • Hawker, Yvonne. Make-up Designory's Beauty Make-up. Burbank, CA: Make-up Designory, 2004. Print.
  • Davis, Gretchen, and Mindy Hall. The Makeup Artist Handbook: Techniques for Film, Television, Photography, and Theatre. Amsterdam: Focal/Elsevier, 2008. Print.
7. Tie this together with a concluding thought.
I have been thinking about my answer three. I am most likely going to revole it around the preparation before applying makeup and how skincare ties into the outcome of the makeup.

Blog 15: Independent Component 2 Approval

Content:

1. Describe in detail what you plan to do for your 30 hours.
For my independent component 2 I will be doing another look book. This look book will include pictures before and after of people I will be doing makeup on and they will then be a part of my look book.
2. Discuss how or what you will do to meet the expectation of showing30 hours of evidence.
I will be gathering people and applying makeup on them. I will be proving pictures of them before and after. I will also have my hours log.

3. Explain how this component will help you explore your topic in more depth.
This component will help me explore my topic in more depth because I am finally actually performing the task of applying makeup. I will have to be in the shoes of a makeup artist and create a look based on the personal likings of the persons makeup Im doing. I will have to look back on my research or perhaps research even more on my topic.

4. Post a log in your Senior Project Hours
link and label it "Independent Component 2"
log.

Blog 14: Independent Component 1

Content:
LITERAL
A) “I, Samantha Angel, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 32 hours of work.”

B) Book Sources
Davis, Gretchen, and Mindy Hall. The Makeup Artist Handbook: Techniques for Film, Television, Photography, and Theatre. Amsterdam: Focal/Elsevier, 2008. Print.
Jones, Robert. Makeup Makeovers: Expert Secrets for Stunning Transformations. Gloucester, MA: Fair Winds Pr., 2005. Print
Hawker, Yvonne. Make-up Designory's Beauty Make-up. Burbank, CA: Make-up Designory, 2004. Print.

(C) Senior Project Hours

(D) For my independent component I completed the makeup look book. This consisted of researching, listening, creating the book and physically preforming makeup of myself.

 INTERPRETIVE
Defend your work and explain its significance to your project and how it demonstrates 30 hours of work. Provide evidence of the 30 hours of work.
Creating the makeup look book was very significant to my senior project because it gave me a feel of what all makeup artist do every single day while applying makeup. Learning how to work under the pressure of someone else is not easy. You have to know all the options you have and the personal likings of the client plus much more. You don't get a second try so it always has to come out great. People expect the makeup artist to know every look every this and that to make them happy. I feel that creating this book gave me a sense of that. I was the one creating the different looks and even though it sounds easy it was very difficult but exciting.

APPLIED
How did the component help you understand the foundation of your topic better? Please include specific examples to illustrate this.
This component helped me understand the foundation of my topic because I constantly learned about how all these looks are accomplished using the right products and techniques. I was also constantly looking at inspiration for the new makeup looks that I was creating. This allowed me to step into the shoes of a makeup artist and use the research I have done to then create the different looks I have chosen. Makeup artists do this on a daily basis they ask what the client would like and then he/she achieves it for them.
