Extra Blog Post: August

This picture is from my favorite day of mentorship I have had yet. My mentor does work out of her house as of now and is working on opening up her own makeup salon. Therefore I would go to her house and do many different things. On this day I arrived at her house and she told me it was a free day for me to do whatever I would like. I knew what she meant the minute she said "free day". She told me that I was able to  test out or use any product she had. Not just the ones on the table but the ones in the many boxes she has underneath and to the sides of the desk. As I was going through all the different products I began to ask her any questions I had and she would go into detail about how to apply it or how efficient the product is. It was my favorite day because well I was able to be hands on with all the different products I have seen but never been able to try out and then was able to use them as well as discuss with her. It was also a great experience and allowed me to get to know her more as a person.

Blog 4: Interview Preparation

Content:

1. Who do you plan to interview? Why?
I will be interviewing Silvia Davila. She is not a make-up artist but she does have a cosmetology license. Therefore she briefly knows about the subject. Her insight or point of view will indeed benefit me for my senior project.

2.  You have to ask 5 questions. What additional questions do you plan to ask?  Ask open-ended questions.
  •  I'm interested in studying make-up artistry. What can you tell me about it?
  • From your perspective, what could I study that would be significant?
  •  Who else would you recommend I talk to?
  • What kinds of places or activities do you recommend I do for the mentorship component?
  • What books should I read in this field?

 Additional Questions
  •  Meanwhile working for your cosmetology license what are things you struggled with?
  • What are some character traits that are necessary for working with your clients? Why?
  •  What initially interested you in cosmetology?
  • How in depth did your cosmetology class go in regarding makeup?
  • Have you worked on anyone before a big event such as prom, wedding, ect.?

Blog 2: Summer Mentorship

1. Using Google doc link a log of specific hours and a description of your duties to your blog post.
Senior Project Hours

2. What is the contact name & number of where you volunteered?
  Jill Anderson Professional Makeup Artist
  (626) 502-8194
3. What questions were raised because of the 10 hours of experience?  List them.
How do you find your perfect match of foundation?
How do you know what makeup compliments your features?
What can you apply in advance to make your final product look outstanding?
What are some precautions one should take while applying makeup?
Does the brand of makeup make a difference?
4. What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?
The most important thing I gained from mentoring with Jill Anderson is that a lot of different things come into play while doing makeup. Honestly it is a simple task but it is a task that not everyone can be amazing at. It takes a lot of trial and error. You aren't always going to get it right the first time. Makeup can be a way of expressing yourself or the way you feel but instead your canvas is your face or someone else's. I feel this way because I enjoy to express the way I feel through the canvas in other words my face because it is the thing that everyone see's on a daily basis. It isn't about trying to impress anyone it simply is about making you feel better about yourself or even better making someone look even more beautiful on a day that they will remember and look back on.
5. What is your senior project topic going to be?  How did what you did help you choose a topic?
My senior project topic is going to be makeup artistry. What I did helped me choose the topic because it made me more interested and opened my eyes to all the different possibilities with makeup or being a makeup artist. Especially the book I have been reading their is so much to know about how to make one face change for the better. Whether you are just going out one evening or getting ready to walk down the aisle. Being able to help someone achieve the look they want on the day they will always look back on and remember would be wonderful.
